National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) recognized Claremont Colleges Men’s Rugby head coach Jeremy Ognall as Penn Mutual Coach of the Month for November 2020. Coaching is about more than wins and losses. It is about making a positive impact on the game, the people, and the community. The Penn Mutual Coach of the Month program recognizes coaches who exemplify the characteristics of a strong role model, build confidence and character in their players, devote time and energy towards building for the future, and make a profound impact in the lives of their athletes and the sport of rugby.

Goff Rugby Report, the top publication covering college rugby in the U.S., recognized the Claremont Rugby Program as the NSCRO Men's Team of the Decade. Given the program's 4 championships, 6 finals appearances, and many other impressive feats during the last 10 years, the recognition was well-earned. Following a hugely successful season, Matthew Grundlingh, Connor Lehner, Frankie Rayis, Chance Sears, and Matt Sill were selected in the 25-man NSCRO All American squad. Ethan Takeyama was named to the 2018-19 NSCRO Men’s Rising Stars squad. Read the story here.


An outstanding weekend spent at Siena College in Albany, New York saw the Lions recapture the NSCRO National Championship, the team’s second national 15’s title in three years. An emotional year culminated with a score of 57-17 over Christendom College in the final. Chance Sears was named the tournament MVP while Frankie Rayis was named the Next Level Rugby Player of the Game. Six Claremont Lions were named to the All Championship XV team: Brian Wahl, Frankie Rayis, Chance Sears ,Ethan Takeyama, Lucas Hackett-Provenzano, and Matthew Grundligh. Read the story here.


The Claremont Colleges captured the NSCRO 7s National Championship after a dominating performance throughout the weekend. The Lions secured their first 7s title ever with a 17-0 win over Salve Regina in the Championship Match. Read the story here.


The Lions secured a resounding 65-0 victory over Tufts University in the 2017 NSCRO National Championship. Clayton To earned MVP honors and was named to the All Championship XV along with Spencer Swensrud, Omar Rodriguez, Shane Pico, Gator Adams, Rodrigo Mejias, Sean Pyne, Brendan MacDonald and Nick Urban. On May 1st 2010, the Claremont Dragons won the Division II National Championship by beating Temple 25-19 in the title game at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Lead by captain Richard McKinney, the Dragons’ relentless physicality kept Temple on the back foot and tries from Lance Rutledge, Andy Seagal, Brent Baltimore, and Spencer Harrison proved too much to overcome despite late scores from the Temple side. Read the story here.
